HPhack
Howard Phillips is a Programmer and Theorist working in Boston,
Massachusetts. He is extremely knowledgable about Network Security
and Computer Science, and is a former student of Miskatonic
University in Arkham, Massachusetts, where he majored in Computer
Science. At the Outpost, while he has given the administrator
duties over to the Sentries, he still hangs around and acts as the
Sentries' collective worry and fear, as he very much does not want
to lose any more of his friends.
In 1999, while enrolled at Miskatonic, Howard had a girlfriend
named Adrianna. He was slated to go on the physics experiment trip
as an equipment operator, but when he was hurt during a casual game
of american football at a picnic, Adrianna convinced him to leave
the team so that he would not injure himself more in the caves. As
such, he was not a member of the doomed experiment that became
known as the Miskatonic Massacre. Shortly
afterwards, after the loss of his girlfriend and many of his
friends and teachers, Howard dropped out of school and ended up
working for Exu
for a short time.
According to Dr. Riley, a former professor of Howard's, Howard is
now working with Exu traveling around the country. From an email to Biff,
a forum member:
And you really think this young man doing the ritualis
somehow a "colleague" of Howard Philips? Are you a close friend of
Howard's? It is such a small world. Isn't it? I was very pleased to
hear from my dear friend, Jakub, that he has been keeping Howard
distracted from all his cares, by running him around the country on
some sort of on-going project. I am amazed that Howard would allow
anyone to pull him away from the computer for such a length of
time. I think the fresh air and change of scenery will serve him
well.

It is speculated, based on an email in the last edition of
Eddie
Pope's investigation reports on the Tarot
Killer, that Howard may have been the one to point Pope to the
trail of the Tarot Killer in the first place. After all, who else
would know that the Sentries would attend the December 19, 2008 event, and that a
crazy old man
would meet them?
Eddie! I'm sitting here in JFK hoping/waiting for my
flight to take off and wondering just what is happening a couple
miles away. Have you met up with the sentries? Did you run into a
crazy old professor? Have you caught the tarot killer? Sorry I had
to miss all the fun, but I was given a tip of my own. Remember that
girl I told you about?

Next time we cross paths, the whiskey's on me. I could be pissed
about the months you had me following your Tarot Killer only to
discover that he's not a killer. But this interdimensional time
traveling business... now that's a story that'll get me somewhere
